House Construction

The Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), with technical support from the Namibia Housing Action Group Trust (NHAG), continues to make significant strides in addressing housing challenges across Namibia through community-led and cost-effective housing solutions. By February 2025, a total of 556 houses had been constructed during the 2024/2025 financial year, contributing to the federation’s overall achievement of more than 8,500 houses built nationwide. These efforts have benefited thousands of families by improving access to safe and affordable housing. The initiative follows an incremental housing approach, allowing families to begin with a basic house structure and gradually expand their homes over time as resources become available. Through collective action, community participation, and partnerships with local authorities and stakeholders, federation members continue to demonstrate how affordable housing can be delivered sustainably while strengthening community ownership and empowerment. The programme has not only improved access to decent housing but has also contributed to serviced land delivery, skills development, and improved living conditions for low-income communities across the country.
